George has been an ever present at Union Park since the late 70’s, when his son Colin joined the club. George was one of the clubs biggest supporters and until recently attended just about every home game to watch his grandson; Club and 1st team Captain, Paul Strachan play. He did so with great pride.
George’s biggest input into the club came as President from 1981 to 1983. During this time the club won division 4, were unbeaten in division 3 and finally promoted into division 2!
George was at the club at any opportunity as president! Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, full shirt and tie, hosting and supporting the team in the lead up to an impressive few seasons!
Although George never played rugby it certainly didn’t stop him getting involved with his touring stories going back to the beginning of Keswick and Dublin trips.
His chirpy nature and quick witted humour always brought a smile to faces. A true gentlemen who always had a kind word. George will be sorely missed by everyone at Union Park. Our thoughts and love are with his family.
