It’s with great sadness we report the death of club legend Maurice Browne.
Maurice joined the club in the early 1980’s and having played rugby in Selkirk as a lad.
He was brought up in Selkirk when adopted by Ronnie Browne and his wife and went to the High School there before moving up to Edinburgh and had a very successful career as a Stonemason.
Maurice then went to play for Selkirk for a few years before coming back to Corstorphine. In his younger days Maurice was a strong hard running centre with great pace and a wicked sidestep.
Maurice most famously played for Corstorphine in the Edinburgh Charity 7’s at Murrayfield against the Barbarians that featured English and Welsh internationalists. (We actually scored the first try as they had all been out on the beers the night before!)
Hard as nails on the pitch, his side step and dummy passing absolutely remained his trademark - even in later years having moved from centre to prop!
Known in Keswick for being the harsh but fair judge, his quick witted straight faced humour and huge heart made him a very popular member of the club.
He will be sorely missed by many.
