Off the field we have seen some new recruits heading to Union Park for the 2019/2020 season as well as launching our Cougars Aspiring Performance Programme. Some of our existing players are joined on this programme by Katie Horsburgh who moves from Borders u18's, Erin Steele from Livingston, who will remain dual registered with them and Morgan Nisbet from Liberton. This programme will see the participants receive Strength and Conditioning training, skills sessions, sports psychology and lifestyle support. Jack Thomson has been added to the coaching team to deliver the strength and conditioning aspect and Karen Dunbar will be leading on the skills sessions.
Outside of the CAP Programme we also see Jacqueline Delahunt join us and Robyn McCollam from Chester Rugby. In the front row we see Ellie Harness, Lucy Minty and Mairi Forsyth (7 Scotland caps) join from Liberton/Watsons, Heriots and Stirling County respectively. In the 2nd row we see Emma Wassell (36 Scotland caps) move from Heriots and also added to the pack is Gemma Stoddart who moves from Watsons.
Speaking on the new recruits and upcoming season, head coach, Eric Jones said, "We've attracted a good balance of players over the off season. We have some exciting young prospects come to the Club and we have also added some real experience to the pack. Pre season has been good so far and once the usual disruption of holiday time is out the way it's going to be an exciting time at Union Park."
The Women get their season under way with a home tie to last years Cup Winners, Watsonsions on Sunday 25th August with a 1400 kick off. Training is Tuesday and Thursday 1900-2030 at Union Park, although we do have some sessions off site in pre season. If you'd like to join us, please contact women@cougarsrugby.co.uk
